Sporting Mouthguards
& Nightguards
Sporting Mouthguards and Nightguards are two of the most common dental guards used in day-to-day life, to protect your teeth from dental injury, trauma or wear.
What to expect at my appointment?
Molds or Scans
Prior to receiving a mouthguard or nightguard, the dentist will take a mold or scan of your teeth, which will be used to fabricate the guard.
You will then return for a follow-up appointment, where the guard will be checked for fit, and instructions will be given by your dentist for wear and maintenance of the guard.
Sporting Mouthguard
Mouthguards are recommended for any adult or child participating in sporting activities. These guards are vital in reducing sporting injuries or trauma to your oral condition, by encasing your teeth in a durable resin that can withstand and cushion your teeth from the forces caused by an accident or collision.
If seeking a mouthguard for sport, the guard can be fabricated in any colour, to match your schooling or sporting team.
Nightguard
A nightguard or sleep splint is recommended for patients who have an active habit of grinding or clenching in their sleep.
Wearing a nightguard aids in reducing wear to your teeth, minimising headaches and jaw aches, and improves sleeping habits.
Your nightguard will be fabricated to fit the exact dimensions of your teeth, as designed by a dental laboratory technician.
